Life and Society:

Jarvi maintain high ideals of loyalty and reliability, taking promises and agreements seriously. People generally are reserved and appreciate etiquette and punctuality. Although Jarvi belongs to Amareth, Amareth is considered in some respects as a place one goes to as much as it is a place one is a part of; cultural identity is strong. Jarvi are especially proud of their small nation's status in the world; Jarvi has been a leading force in Amareth for diplomacy and peace. Women in Jarvi are treated with respect and are allowed to own land, though they are still expected to heed the counsel of their older male relatives. That said, a man is expected to be polite and respectful to his mother, regardless of his age. The male is the final say in regards to business decisions, but leave the rearing of the children and the authority for such strictly in the hands of the women.

Marriage tends to be reserved for the upper castes. Those at the serf level rarely bother with the formality of marriage, simply living together and considering that sufficient.

Communities tend to be close-knit, often gathering in public baths (both genders) or saunas. Other amareth tend to be a bit shocked by this.

Children are apprenticed at a young age, often by ten. Both genders are apprentices, though there are definite gender lines to the crafts followed. The crafts of sewing, weaving, baking, gardening, and cooking are reserved for the women. All males are expected to serve at least two years in the army before they are allowed to own land.

The clothing varies from village to village but for women usually involves a layered dress (including an apron) and a bonnet or cap. Instead of caps, younger women wear ribbons as headbands. Men's costumes include trousers, a shirt, and a waist-length jacket or vest. They also usually wear a peaked cap, woolen cap, or felt hat. Fabrics for the dresses and jackets are often striped, but there are hundreds of variations.

Foot races are a popular sport in Jarvi. Painting is a popular art form, with the family homes being a popular medium. Most families boast at least one member who can play the kantele, a stringed instrument played with the fingers.

Jarvi is still feudal, but slowly moving away from such as land ownership becomes more common. The king is a hereditary monarch.
