The Zsiga, the terrifying raiders of the north, see the spilling of blood in combat as a tribute to their warrior gods. They bless their long ships by driving the keels across the bodies of prisoners in a version of ship "christening." They practice the blood eagle sacrifice, in which a man's rib cage is split open to form a shape like an eagle's wings. Traditionally the act of sacrifice means to redden with blood.
